Overview:

As the Head of Transport for UK & Ireland you will be helping to design and overseeing the transport strategy and delivery of continuous improvement plans and activities based on data insight to identify the most service driven, cost effective and efficient transport solutions & experiences to our customers. With accountability for own fleet and carrier safety, service levels and costs. Optimising transport compliance within a complex chemical distribution network. Ensuring cost and efficiency KPI reporting to the Operations Director for better decision making and continuous improvement.

The Role:

Within this position you will have accountability for the management or our own fleet, dedicated fleet and a vast network of third party carrier service. The role requires accurate cost management, control and forecasting, ensuring the efficiency of procured service agreements, strategic transport partner relationship management and through a network of 3PL/Transport Providers which is facilitated through a digital TMS.

You will lead site based transport managers and their teams of drivers as well as provide leadership and direction to the centralised transport planning function. You will work with the UKI regional operations teams to proactively manage key partners & transport providers to deliver to service levels, costs and ensure that a contract lifecycle management approach is adopted in combination with true vendor relationship management to achieve the best service levels for the business and its customers.

You will bring an external market expertise on key transport trends: markets, transport providers, constantly assessing the way Univar Solutions approaches our transport service and spend, and making recommendations to ensure a continuous improvement cycle.

About You:

+ Successful experience of transport procurement, negotiating and managing multi-million £ supplier contracts with strategic logistics partners
+ Experience with Chemical distribution and associated ADR compliance. Ensuring the health, safety or transport personnel, customers and the public
+ Detailed knowledge of transport planning optimisation trough digital transport management systems
+ Develop and drive a technology & digitalised way of working through our fleet to achieve better efficiencies, visibility of performance and interface to other business functions to achieve optimum customer service
+ Delivering performance through true people leadership – inspiring and motivating our teams to achieve more with pride and passion for what we do
+ Can achieve the budgeted cost per tonne, adjusted for volume by ensuring flexibility in the transport model across the UK network
+ Commercial acumen, a high level of numerical aptitude, with the ability to make complex decisions based on complex data sets, translating into value add optimised changes
+ Experience and capability to operate at & negotiate with the most senior levels of staff in the our suppliers
+ Ability to lead and day to day manage own fleet Transport managers and 3PL contract operations
+ Can build collaborative relationships and work easily with a diverse range of stakeholders from across Europe
+ Strong interpersonal skills to drive alignment on transport strategy within the operations function
+ Proven track record of making change happen and working alongside/Leading project teams to deliver significant change projects

Desirable:

+ Bachelor of Science Degree in logistics and supply chain.
+ CPC Holder
+ Operator’s Licence Holder
+ ADR Qualification & Experience
