Tax Consultant - Fully Remote

Job Description

Tax Consultant - Employment Tax & Worker Status

Salary: £40,000 - £60,000
Location: Fully Remote (Offices based in Milton Keynes)

Robert Walters is partnering a growing specialist tax consultancy to recruit a Tax Consultant to join its expanding team.

Although the business has offices in Milton Keynes, this is a fully remote opportunity, offering genuine flexibility and the chance to work alongside a knowledgeable team of specialists from wherever you are based.

This is not a general tax advisory or compliance position. The role focuses specifically on employment tax, worker status and labour supply chain consultancy, advising businesses on complex and often challenging issues surrounding how workers are engaged, classified and paid.

You will work directly with a diverse commercial client base, providing specialist advice on employment status, IR35, CIS, umbrella companies, labour supply chains and associated HMRC compliance matters.

The position offers considerable variety, autonomy and the opportunity to develop a recognised specialism within an increasingly important area of UK taxation. You will also gain exposure to HMRC investigations, contentious matters and tribunal work as your experience develops.

The business genuinely invests in its people. Professional development is encouraged and supported, with funding available for relevant qualifications such as CTA and LLM. Benefits are also tailored to the individual, taking into consideration what matters most to you and your personal circumstances, rather than offering a one-size-fits-all package.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist employment tax and worker-status advice to a diverse portfolio of commercial clients.
  • Review contracts and working arrangements in relation to employment status, IR35 and off-payroll working rules.
  • Advise on CIS, labour supply chains, umbrella companies and recruitment-sector taxation.
  • Undertake employment tax, supply-chain compliance and risk reviews.
  • Support clients with HMRC enquiries, investigations and employment tax disputes.
  • Research complex technical matters and prepare clear, commercially focused advice.
  • Draft and review contractual documentation and technical correspondence.
  • Work alongside accountants, legal professionals and other advisers to deliver practical solutions.
  • Contribute to thought leadership through articles, seminars and webinars.
  • Develop experience in contentious employment tax matters and Tax Tribunal representation.

About You

The business is keen to hear from candidates with experience in employment taxes, worker status or related areas of UK taxation.

You may be an established Employment Tax Consultant looking for a new challenge, or someone with a broader tax or legal background who has developed relevant experience and is looking to specialise further.

  • Experience in UK employment taxation, worker status or employment tax consultancy.
  • Knowledge of IR35, off-payroll working, CIS, umbrella companies or labour supply chains.
  • Experience gained within professional practice, industry, HMRC or a specialist advisory environment.
  • Strong technical research, analytical and written communication skills.
  • Confidence dealing directly with clients and explaining complex legislation in a straightforward way.
  • A commercial mindset and the ability to provide practical solutions.
  • The ability to manage your own workload while working collaboratively within a close-knit team.
  • CTA, ATT, ACA or ACCA qualifications, or equivalent practical experience.

Candidates with a legal background and relevant employment tax experience are also encouraged to apply.

On Offer?

  • Salary of £40,000 - £60,000, depending on experience.
  • Fully remote working, with offices based in Milton Keynes.
  • Individually tailored benefits package, shaped around what is important to you.
  • Generous pension contributions.
  • Funded professional training and development, including support towards CTA and LLM qualifications.
  • Exposure to interesting and technically challenging specialist advisory work.
  • Opportunities to develop expertise in contentious matters and tribunal representation.
  • Supportive leadership and a genuinely collaborative working environment.
  • Autonomy and trust, without unnecessary corporate bureaucracy.
